Lalor Living & Learning Centre is a not-for-profit incorporated association. The association is made up of members who are local people who support the aims and purposes of the association. Each year, the members elect a Committee of Governance who are responsible for overseeing the organisation. The role of the Committee includes making sure the organisation is working towards its vision and purpose, setting strategic goals, financial oversight and appointing the Manager.
Lalor Living & Learning Centre started out over 25 years ago, operating from a small three bedroom weatherboard house at No. 1 Cyprus Street, near the library and the May Rd shops: the site is now a car park. At one stage, two shipping containers were used as additional classrooms due to the growing demand from our community for more language and literacy classes. By the end of 2003, thanks to a grant from the Victorian Government’s Community Support Fund, the Adult Community & Further Education Board, and support from the City of Whittlesea, we were able to move to our present purpose built facility alongside the existing French St. Hall.
Our welcoming, friendly and professional Centre provides different activities and classes for members of the community. Lalor Living & Learning Centre is approved by the Victorian Registration & Qualifications Authority (VRQA) as a Registered Training Organisation (TOID 3902). We are also registered with the ACFE Board as a Learn Local provider of adult education. Many activities focus on adult education, including English and computers, but the Centre is very supportive of learners of all ages from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
We offer an Occasional Childcare Service and an After School Tutoring Program for younger members of our community.
